The project meteorologist is responsible for developing and publishing detailed marine weather and ice reports in support of various Alaska operations. They will be required to participate in project planning with key stakeholders and develop reporting plans to support operations, including the coordination and integration of assets (i.e. satellite imagery, drone surveillance, radar imagery). The frequency of reporting will vary by project, and will range from daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal. Regional reporting areas include the navigational waters of west coast United States/Canada and the Alaska coast. Areas of importance are the Chukchi and Beaufort Sea and their navigational routes and coastline. This position is project based and can be performed remotely with adequate computing and communications capability.


LOCATION: Anchorage, AK 

SCHEDULE: Varies with each project



  • Strong understanding of meteorology and sea ice, with a proven track record of analysis and forecasting in support of marine operations
  • Analyze marine weather/ice data from multiple sources and prepare detailed reports
  • Analyze and interpret satellite imagery (including synthetic aperture radar)
  • Ability to multi-task, handle emergent weather/events, and adapt to rapidly changing developments
  • Coordinate and integrate assets (i.e. satellite imagery, drone and manned aerial surveillance, radar imagery) to execute reporting plans in support of maritime operations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly to marine and project personnel in support of operational decisions



  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience


  • Alaskan marine ice/weather and maritime experience preferred
